Two Things to Check Before Your Next Order

Behind the Request is our short video series about what’s going on behind the quote requests we get. Episode 2 opened with a simple question from Chris Senesac: before your next order, where should you be taking a closer look?

The answer came in two parts.

Obsolescence reviews are already underway

A lot of our customers are in the middle of obsolescence reviews right now. They’re going through their boards part by part and working out when to re-spin them.

What’s pushing them is lead times on legacy devices. They keep getting longer, and it’s something everyone in the market is dealing with at the moment.

When a part you’ve built around for years keeps slipping, you eventually have to decide two things: how long you can keep building the board you have, and when the new one needs to be ready. That’s what these reviews are for. The lead time used to be a purchasing problem. Now it’s setting the redesign schedule.

A heads-up on Q4 pricing

The second point was a heads-up. Here in Q4, it appears that AMD, and possibly Intel, may raise prices.

Nothing is confirmed, so treat it as a heads-up rather than news. The timing is what matters. A price change this quarter shows up in the orders you place for next year, and in deliveries through 2027.

What to check before your next order

Chris closed the episode with the practical part: if those parts are on your bill of materials, it’s worth checking your delivery commitments now. In practice, that means:

  • Go through your BOM and flag the legacy parts, plus anything from AMD or Intel.
  • Ask your suppliers for 2027 delivery dates in writing, and how long their pricing holds.
  • If a board is heading for a re-spin, work out how many units you need to keep building until the new design is ready.

If you want a second pair of eyes on any of it, send us the part number, how many you need and when you need them. You’ll hear back within 12 to 24 hours with a quote, a question, or a straight no. Not sure what to send? Here’s how to send a BOM that gets quoted fast.
